Best Way to Use the Jaclyn Hill Palette by Morphe (video tutorial as well)
Today’s
video and blog are all about the Jaclyn Hill Palette by Morphe. I love this
palette and I don’t regret buying it all. It retails on the Morphe site (and is
now available at Ulta!!!) for $38 USD. Totally worth it for the 35 shadows you
get. Now, this is one of those palettes that has had a bit of controversy here
and there. I believe this may be due to some of the more shimmer shades being a
little finicky. They absolutely do work and they can even look like foiled
metal with certain techniques. I believe that is the key to this palette, just
know which technique to use with which shades. This palette is of the rare
occasions where there is an affordable palette with matte shades that are
absolute perfections but you have to work with some of the shimmers. Some
people may be getting a bit of heartburn because you do have to work with some
of the shadows BUT, let’s face it, this is a Morphe palette. We aren’t talking
Natasha Denona here. Not knocking Morphe or affordable brands, but don’t expect
a $38 palette to perform like a $129 palette. I’ve found they ALL swatch great
but on the lid they can be sheer or crumble unless you use your finer or
(drumroll please) and sponge tip applicator. I feel like when you use your
finger with shadows you lose some of the precision so I was thinking “what is
similar to using your finger but not?” I then thought about all those unused
sponge tip applicators I have in my freelance kit as backup just in case that
never get used. I pulled them out and BINGO!! Beautiful, rich, pigmented color.
I hope you enjoy today’s video tutorial and discussion about this palette.

Simple, Holiday Makeup Look (video)
Thank you guys so much for watching my Simple Holiday Makeup
Look. I’m using the Jaclyn Hill Palette by Morphe but you can use WHATEVER
shadows you have. It’s a basic eyeshadow technique of midtone in the crease,
deep tone in the “outer V” and lighter tone and/or shimmer on the lid, with a
highlighted brow bone. If you have more “mature” or crepe eyelids, just use the
same technique using only Matte shadows.

Quick Tips on Highlighting & Contouring
Highlighting and contouring do not have to be scary or intimidating. They are all about know which types of product YOU prefer and then the rest is just knowing where to place them. This is what we are going to learn today.
Quick quide:
Bronzing—gives life and sunshine back to the face. When we use foundations, concealers, and powder we tend to even out the skin tone so bronzing helps up put color back in. Bronze were the sun naturally hits you—the top of the forehead (if you have a “small” forehead, you can skip this if you’d like), just below the cheekbones (hollows of the cheeks), and you can even dust a bit on your nose and chest.
Contouring—creates shadows to change or enhance the dimension of your face. Use a more cool toned product (remember we are creating shadows so keep in mind the “color” of a shadow) and you can place in the same areas as your bronzer but a little more focused and sharp. You can also add some to you jawline to take a couple extra pounds off your chin! Take the powder straight down each side of the nose to straighten it. Add a line across the end of the nose (before the nostrils start) to shorten a long nose). It’s seriously free cosmetic surgery.
Highlighting—Think of highlighting in the sense of “adding light.” Not in the sense of bringing attention to bad things. We want to bring light to the correct areas. (Contouring brings shadow/Highlighting Brings Light) Highlight goes on top of the cheek bones most traditionally. It can also be used above the brows (and just below the brows) and well as tip of the nose (SPARINGLY) and cupid’s bow (the little arch at the top of the lip). You can use cream or non shimmery highlights under the eye area or simply use a concealer that is a shade or two lighter than your foundation color in that area. Shimmery highlights are available in varying degrees so just try several different types and see which ones you prefer.
